Chess Ideas, based in Melbourne, is Australia's first chess coaching company, providing chess to schools since 1994. Chess is all about deduction, reasoning, strategic analysis, concentration, spatial awareness, logic, social interaction and so much more. But most of all, it's fun!
Clubs/ Private Tuition
Chess Club at the Chess Ideas Office
Learn and play Tuesday and Wednesday Evenings 5:30-6:30 in our Ripponlea office. Term 1 runs for 8 weeks.
Classes run Tuesdays from 2nd Feb to 23rd March in term 1 and the cost is $80 for the term or $12 per evening if coming casually.
Or come Wednesdays from 3rd Feb to 24th March in term 1 and the cost is $80 for the term or $12 per evening if coming casually.
Presided over by Reuven Neumann (rating 2250 and our funniest teacher!), this is the opportunity for chess players of all standards, who all share a love of the game, to get together. It’s a fun time of intellectual stimulation, good games and good conversation.

Private Lessons
- Private lessons are available in your home or in our home base at Ripponlea, Melbourne at a fee of $50.00 per hour.
- Small group coaching can also be arranged at a lesser charge to the individual student.
- We are happy to coach parents and grandparents (who wish to play with their children) or those of you who have decided it’s finally time to ‘just do it’ and learn the game.
Our students range from the Australian Junior Team (Coached by Darryl Johansen) to absolute beginners, so give it a try!
